1-3-17 Jude - Cat found locked in shed and frozen

Emergency request for help with vetting. This big beautiful boy , who we are calling Jude, was found today apparently he had been locked in someone's shed and was unable to get food or water. He is half frozen, skin and bones and dehydrated so bad that his eyes are drawn back in his head. His body temperature is extremely low. From the looks of his feet and teeth he has tried desperately to get out of wherever he was confined. ( Has broken his teeth off and his nails are to nubs from trying to get out.) His gums are white.  I am begging anyone if they can help financially please do so directly to Creekside Animal Hospital 5702980800 under my name (Wendy Ide) and Jude's. If you are unable to donate please keep him in your prayers and please share this post. God bless my friends Paula Christine and Sara Brown for picking him up today.  ***UPDATE*** he made it through the night and even began eating and using the litter box on his own.

1-6-17 Mickie - stomatitis

MICKIE is one of our FIV+cats. He is very sweet, however, a very shy boy. Last week MICKIE stopped eating and drinking and on Friday (December 30th) we took him to our regular vet. It came as no surprise that they found ulcers on his gums and he was diagnosed with stomatitis. He was put on codeine for the pain and antirobe for the infection. I found after a day or two of his meds I was able to get him to eat wet food by mashing it up well and adding lots of water to it. I also added nutrical for the extra calories as during the days he was eating less he lost weight. Our vet quoted us $1600-$2100 to do the surgery. I just about fell over. I don't have that kind of money and to try and fundraise that amount seemed impossible.  I approached one of the rescue groups here in Toronto and they agreed to allow us to use one of their partner vets who graciously agreed to do the surgery for significantly less.  Please help us to help MICKIE...stomatitis is very common in FIV+ cats and is very painful when left untreated. The best course of action for these cats is to do a full mouth extraction.  Thank you for caring.  (Caron Lavallee/Fenomenal Feral Felines - not a 501c3, located in Canada)

1-6-17 A cat we helped back on12/2/16 who still needs more help:
12-2-16 Spike - cat with a huge kidney stone/stomatitis

Spike has been diagnosed with a large painful kidney stone. He needs a procedure called nephrotomy. By all accounts, the only university that can safely perform this procedure on him is the University of Georgia. He also needs extensive dental surgery.
If you can donate ANY amount at all towards his surgery costs, I would appreciate it. If you can’t help him financially, PLEASE help him by SHARING his story with your friends, family, co-workers, and church members.
I found him when he was a kitten; starving with only 2 hairs on the top of his head; a solid blanket of fleas on his entire body; ravaged with infection. A vet told me "I could find better cats than this at the shelter and to put him down." I found a compassionate veterinarian who helped him. He made it past all those hurdles and has been my best friend ever since. I helped him as a tiny kitten; I am helping him now as a senior.  Spike's dental surgery is coming up soon. The infection in his mouth has got to go! At least the pain from his teeth will no longer be a problem.

1-6-17 Dude - kitty with a blocked bladder

My friends, I need your help. Last night i first heard about this orange kitty named Dude through a friend of ours. The picture I saw of him showed him straining in a litter box. I see and hear of sad things every day but this little fella touched my heart. He was rescued as a kitten and is now about 5 years old. He sadly has been through the adoption routine, shuffled from one owner to the next. He finally ended up getting to a good home through our friends at ," Blessing for Boone. " I am not sure of exactly when this happened but he sustained a serious injury, likely a kick in the hindquarter by a " neighbor" according the the vets analysis . Sadly Lisa, who is his current owner spent her last dollars yesterday having him evaluated. The vet sent her home with Dude as she didn't have the $2000 for the surgery and care that dude needed. She was able to get him back today to see if he could be drained but the vet turned her away.  Dude is 100% in crisis right now. When I asked of the situation our friends at " Blessings for Boone" told me they brought him home to say goodbye. I said this is unacceptable. My friends, while i don't have the money i cant watch this cat die in pain. Our friends at Blessings for Boone have made arrangements to get Dude this afternoon to their vets. I told them to go forward and I would put it on my credit card if I have to. Everyone knows my current financial situation so I am hoping that some of you that can will donate so we can get this guy the surgery he needs this afternoon.

1-12-17 Honey - Sick kitty

Honey joined SCOOP, Inc. in May 2015 after she was found staggering and emaciated. Her injuries indicated that she had been viciously kicked multiple times. She suffered a collapsed lung and soft tissue trauma at different stages of healing indicating abuse across various time periods. She had been kicked so hard that her spine was damaged. With care she gained two pounds. Her pain subsided and she was happy again although she would suffer permanent lung and spinal damage.  Despite this abuse, she purred and was so loving, and this is how she has remained for 20 months. She recently became less interested in food and visited the vet who felt a mass on or around her kidney. She'll receive an ultrasound and most likely biopsy. The estimate is approximately $1,200.00 to $1,500.00. Without this procedure, it cannot be determined whether Honey has cancer and what treatment would be most appropriate. SCOOP has had two other cats with cancer since October that received this care. Despite continual fundraising, emergency funds have been depleted. No donation is too small and will help Honey receive the care she deserves. Thank you from Honey and everyone with SCOOP.  UPDATE: Honey currently is at MedVet in Dayton undergoing a needle biopsy of her kidney, which will be evaluated today by the radiologist. Dr. Back believes that if it is cancer, they've had good luck with an oral, monthly, chemotherapy drug. She suggested that Honey stay though for 24 hours to try to "knock down the cancer" as much as possible. Hospitalization likely will be cost prohibitive since the biopsy estimate alone is $1500.00 to $2,000.00. Honey is such a sweetheart--purrs continually. We'd like to give her a chance and will discuss pursuing oral chemotherapy if her biopsy comes back positive. She has not had an easy life and we'd like to give her every chance possible for more quality time. Thank you for supporting Honey! (SCOOP is a 501c3 who often donates to The Dollar Club)

1-12-17 Willow - very sick feral cat

This cat is from one of my colonies in North Plainfield. I took the cat to the vet and now he is under my care. The vet couldn't sedate him because he is feral. Plus, the cat can not breathe through his nose. The vet didn't want to give him the convenia shot because she didn't think it would work. So she gave me azithromycin today. I'm supposed to Medicare him with some eye drops as well. If I can't get the eye drops in him I'm going to have to go back to the vet to try aconvenia shot.  If he gets better and can be sedated so the vet can do the snap test to see if he has FIV. She will have to see if he may have a polyp in his nose, maybe that's the reason he isn't breathing too well through his nose. This is a sick cat but he has motivation to live.

1-26-17 Chance - cat with Panleukapenia

On Friday, Chance went to the clinic to be neutered and vaccinated for adoption. Once home we noticed that he was acting a little odd, but thought it was just due to the stress of surgery. The following morning we woke up to Chance vomiting, very lethargic, and burning up. We rushed him in to be seen at Three Notch Veterinary Hospital worried that he was having a reaction to the anesthesia from surgery or even the vaccinations. He had a fever of 106!! A fever that high comes with the risk of brain damage if it persists, so he was immediately given room temperature fluids under his skin. He was also given medication for his nausea and a convenia antibiotic injection. He had a repeat combo test done to rule out feline leukemia and feline aids which came back NEGATIVE. He also had some blood work done to look at his protein levels which were in a pretty normal range. We were sent home with no diagnosis other than what looked to be an upper respiratory infection.  Over the weekend there was no forward progress in Chance. He fever kept going back and forth. He was very inactive and we started to notice him have a hard time getting comfortable. He was getting syringe fed every few hours as he was not eating on his own.  First thing Monday morning we brought him back in to the hospital. His physical exam showed that he had developed pneumonia on top of the upper respiratory infection he already had. He had to receive even more fluids injected under his skin and he was started on doxycycline which was an oral antibiotic. By Tuesday there was no positive progress. He had begun vomiting again, was starting to have chronic diarrhea, and began urinating all over himself instead of using the litter box. His fever had also climbed back up to 105.9! We rushed him in to the vet where his physical exam showed that he was having a bit of discomfort in his abdomen. A full blood workup was done to see if we could figure out what was going on as it was clear we were not just dealing with pneumonia and an upper respiratory infection. With that blood test we were given the probable diagnosis of panleukopenia. Also known as feline distemper or feline parvovirus, is a highly contagious disease. It is very similar to the canine parvovirus. Research says that typically cats who survive the fifth day have an increased chance at full recovery. Today is day five for Chance. Chance was hospitalized on Tuesday in an effort to save his life. The latest update on Chance is that he is more alert, purring his heart out, and beginning to eat tiny amounts on his own. He is still being syringe fed every few hours. The vet did not feel that it was safe to send Chance home today, so he is staying another.  One of the vets for Chance called at about 9:00 this morning. He said that Chance is clearly feeling a lot better! He had flipped over his water dish in the night and was bouncing around the cage. The vet had a hard time checking vitals and things this morning because he's trying to run all over the place! He did have some bloody stool yesterday, but this morning it looks like that is cleared up and things are beginning to head back to normal. His temp went down to 102 last night, but has climbed a little to 102.9 this morning. It is unclear at this time if Chance will be able to go home today. They are going to slow down his IV fluids to see what happens, but the vet thinks it definitely is a good idea for him to stay through tonight to be safe. When he does come home he will continue three different medications and have to be under close observation.

1-27-17  Karma - dog with a broken leg

Karma, this little girl is 9 months old. She had a terrible accident last Tuesday. She got up to a bedroom loft and got too excited and jumped 14 feet to the living room floor. After taking her to the Tecumseh Animal Hospital I learned her leg was broken and she needed surgery to save it for $1000 or it could be amputated for $600. I am heartbroken for her and do not have the money for either. I am on a fixed income and take care of a granddaughter. I have been able to keep Karma on her pain medication while I am trying to come up with a way to save her leg and pray for any help.  Fundraiser Updates ** We have successfully raised $567 (between this site, the Dollar Club and other resources)! If we reach the $800 mark, the vet has indicated we can schedule the surgery and he will allow payments on the balance! We are so close! We only need $233! Karma will get her leg repaired and be on the road to recovery! Please if you were considering making a donation and it is something you can do, we need it badly! Thank you everyone for their donations and prayers!  (Not a 501c3)

1-30-17  Mellie - very ill dog

Beautiful Mellie has been part of Phoenix Rising Animal Rescue for over a year. During that time, she went from an emaciated heartworm positive pup to a beautiful heartworm negative pup. A couple of months ago, we noticed a change in Mellie. She started losing a significant among of weight and she became very unpredictable. As a rescue, we began trying to find the cause of her sudden change. We took her to the vet and ran several test and took some x-rays but these test did not find the root cause of her change. We have exhausted our resources trying to fight for her and we are now at a point where we cannot afford the extensive test Mellie needs. We reached out to a trusted rescue, Bailey's Way, for help and they have agreed to partner with us to help save Mellie. We are extremely thankful for Bailey's Way for their help and support. Both rescues know this effort will be tough and expensive and we are reaching out for help from our supporters. Mellie needs all of us for us to find what is causing her sickness. She continues to fight so we will fight with her. Please find it in your heart to donate to Mellie's care. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. Bailey's Way Rescue, Inc. is a 501c3designated non-profit organization.
