8-4-22  Milton - sick stray

I was called about a cat left behind in an apartment in Milton PA. The new tenants were there fixing up the place when they found Milton locked in the basement by the hot water heater, lethargic and barely breathing. No one in the area could help So I was contacted as the new tenants didn’t have the money to help him. They contacted landlord who said it was the prior tenants cat and they didn’t realize they left him behind. I rushed Milton to the vet where his prognosis was grim. He survived the night, but was severely anemic and dehydrated and emaciated. The vet was giving fluids and monitoring blood levels. After 72 hours they were able to get him to eat a few bites and stand up on his own, and his red blood cells showed minor improvement. They sent him home on supportive care. I had him home two days and he wouldn’t eat or drink. We rushed him back on a Sunday. They ran labs again and said he was still not improving in his red blood cells so they did a very expensive blood transfusion. They were worried he would start going into lipidosis . He was also battling mycoplasma of the blood from being riddled with thousands of fleas. He has been at the vet now for all but 2 days since then 26th of June. Today they put a feeding tube in. I am about 2,000 dollars deep into this cat and I don’t want to give up. They think he has a chance. Milton is looking at another 5-7 days hospitalization at 50 dollars a day plus meds, and weekends are 89 dollars a day plus meds. My current bill now is 752 dollars and he’s still there.

8-5-22 Arvin - hurt kitten needs surgery

One By One Animal Advocates is asking for donations. The shelter was asked to pick up a kitten who was in obvious distress. They sent him directly to the vet where an XRY revealed a diaphragmatic hernia that had allowed his liver and intestines to move into the thoracic cavity. What does this mean? His other organs are pressed up against his lungs, and he can’t breathe! His surgery was scheduled for tomorrow, but he started having even more difficulties today and had to go to PAC to be put in a cage with oxygen. The shelter does not have the funds for specialized surgeries, so we offered to help. We know his prognosis is great once he has it, but he needs it to live. There is a possibility he was hit by a car but, he is so small, they suspect he may have been kicked. His surgery estimate is $1,200. We don’t have a lot of time to fundraise, so we hope you feel moved to help this little guy named Arvin.

8-7-22 More cat food needed

Between more cats showing up on our stray route, Airforce Bill’s stops (adding 25-30 cats a night) and the people we are helping to feed strays near their home, we can barely keep up.  We haven’t made a payment on any medical bills this week as it’s all gone to food for strays and foster supplies. Below is one of our youngest colonies and a guy from one of our oldest. We will be covering for Airforce Bill for some time as he’s not feeling better and we are seeing new ones every day at our stops. It’s their one guaranteed meal and we have never missed a day. Period. This $5 Friday is helping to feed homeless animals.

8-9-22  Sugarbutt - blocked kitty

URGENT - an owner called me in a panic to try to help SugarButt.
This is the message I got. "My 4 year old male cat who is neutered He has had a few seizures but he came down with a cold about 2 weeks ago and he has a film over the inside corners of his eyes. I noticed roughly two or three days ago he was taking longer using the bathroom and when I would check on him he isn't really peeing at all. I don't have the money for a vet visit this week but I just had to put a cat down in February who started with the same symptoms and it was a blockage in his urethra. "  UPDATE; He has a catheter and will be hospitalized until Saturday. Hoping it works.
High Point vet (336-889-3832) agreed to see him tonight and they sedated him and working to unblock him.

8-13-22 Nathan  -  kitten need feeding tube

Help!!!! I have a tiny kitten from the blind mom that is 1 lb 3 oz. it is mega esophagus genetic. I cannot get food in him as it goes down his trachea even the liquid antibiotics seem to go down his trachea and make him not be able to breathe and of course he has pneumonia and got it before anybody knew he had mega esophagus and I need help. I need anybody that's dealt with this in a little tiny baby to tell me what to do to save him cuz my surgeon and the hospital emergency visits are not helping or giving me the information to save him. They just say we don't know. Very risky. $6000 for hospital in house care but no promises and will keep happening because his esophagus is enlarged. And that is unacceptable. I need help from someone who's dealt with this in a baby that's 1.3 oz. Update: This is a very strange case. My doctor says he can't find a diaphragmatic hernia even though that's what we all thought it was. Maybe mega esophagus. He makes squeaking crackly sounds when he breathes and he can't eat yet there's nothing showing in his throat or esophagus. They think it may be megaesophagus but they can't tell in the x-rays at this small age. He stopped eating and lost a lot of weight. He's being syringe fed which causes him to crackle louder and breath hard and fight us but he will die without being fed. New x-rays will be done in a week. Update Nathan's in the hospital in oxygen with a nasal feeding tube and needs your prayers, your support, your shares and your donations. We're out of money and he needs lots of help.

8-25-22 Tangy stray cat hurt badly

Tangy aka Tangelo (we initially thought kitty was a male) was found on the hot pavement in the middle of the street. She had just been hit and the person that hit her got off to look and quickly got back in her car and drove away, leaving her to die. Once Jackie and her husband got to her, Tangy tried dragging herself away. Jackie could not bear to just leave her there to continue getting run over. She moved her to the front of her front door and immediately reached out for help on the FB cat rescue pages.Tangy’s other savior Lulu responded to Jackies pleas and volunteered to pick her up and take her to the Vet. Lulu went immediately to ampm where they asked for a $700 deposit, leaving not able to pay for that deposit. Lisa was able to get her seen at Cypress Animal Hospital ASAP. Lulu drove her to Cypress as fast as she safely could. Checking on her every few minutes thinking she would possibly lose her. Tangy was very weak and she could barely open her eyes. Once arrived and waiting to be checked in, Tangy was purring with gratitude for being saved.
Vet completed a full examination, and Tangy will need a left rear leg amputation, amongst other skin conditions addressed. Also waiting to see if she is able to urinate and defecate on her own.
Tangy’s life matters, she matters and we will not give up on her. She is unable to put any pressure on that left rear leg, therefore she’s unable to walk. Leg has been bandaged and she is in the best of hands with an experienced medical foster awaiting her surgery date.
Please help us cover Tangy’s leg amputation surgery.
