3-2-20 Mona - Diabetic/dental kitty in need of rescue

Hello, my name is Mona. My animal id is #78759. I am a desexed female black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 8 years 4 months 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 2/18/2020, with the surrender reason stated as animal health - will need ongoing vet care.  Mona is at risk for medical reasons. Mona came to us as an owner surrender. While Mona's owner made every effort to care for her, Mona's medical condition as well as other life circumstances has made it too difficult. Mona has been diagnosed with diabetes as well as dental disease, both of which will need further care. The diabetes will require life long treatment and frequent vet visits for appropriate management. Behaviorally, Mona is a shy cat but does slowly come out of her shell with time. Mona would be best suited for an experienced cat owner that can both provide her with a quiet, low stress environment, as well as accommodate her medical needs.  Mona has been rescued and will be going to the vet today!

3-4-20  Pistachio - dog terribly neglected with several abscesses

Amy Albrecht (TLC Pet Rescue) is asking for donations. Last week I posted a dog that desperately needed our help. His owner was put in an assisted living home and his poor dog was not taken care of and just let out on the streets. His name is Pistachio and he is about 5 years old. He is partially blind in one eye and was matted so badly he had to be sedated and shaved down. The hair was so matted it caused abscesses on his paws which would have led to him having his legs amputated if he was left out on his own much longer. We are so happy we had a foster to step up for him and he will get the care he very much deserves. This poor boy deserves the very best and we will make sure he is never in this condition again. If you are able please donate via paypal to tlcpetrescue@gmail.com or click the donate button. Pistachio is counting on us to continue helping him TLC Pet Rescue #donate #neglect #pistachio #tlcpetrescue

Thank you Morrow animal hospital for taking such good care of our rescues!!

3-5-20  Doug  - very ill dog

This is Doug, a two-year-old Papillon, who was dropped off in the night dropbox at Animal Friends of the Valley, along with his three siblings...all extremely fearful! Doug was rescued a short while later but his siblings never made it out. After several months of a foster having no success in socializing him due to his extreme and immobilizing fearfulness, Freddie B. (Freddie B's Furry Friends - Animal Rights Advocate, Dog Shelter Volunteer) was asked to do what he could. Upon agreement, Doug was signed over to Freddie for him to socialize him with the goal of finding him a forever home once Doug is ready. Up until now, Doug went from a dog immobilized by fear 24/7 to one who lounges comfortably on his pillow, cautiously allows Freddie and others to pet him, and happily follows Freddie B's other dogs around....he also went from a dog who would dramatically flip and "freak out" anytime a leash is put on him, to a dog who calmly walks on the leash in the heel position.

Doug still has a long ways to go before he is completely socialized and ready for a normal adoption, but now he needs our help.

UPDATE: Doug has a infection that came on suddenly from unknown origin; the vet said the infection is almost septic, that is causing a fever of 105, normal is 101. This is also causing his blood to not clot normally as a test revealed. Other test results gave no other explanation for the infection. Further preliminary tests revealed nothing to solve the origin of the serious infection. Doug was admitted for close observation and will be kept on IV's and treatment tin an attempt to stop the seriousness and spread of the infection. Doug's fever broke and he is more alert than yesterday, but still has no interest in eating and his blood is still not clotting as it should. What also concerns the veterinarian, is that Doug's leg also started to swell for unknown reason and the vet. says it is not from any fracture but in the form of an edema with an unknown cause. Doug is having to stay for at least another two or three days as, per the vet, he is still not in the clear as the source of his infection is still unknown...he will remain under close observation and monitoring while remaining on antibiotics, pain meds, and being fed through an IV. I am told if his blotting does not improve in the next day, he will have to be given plasma to help fight the unknown infection and to help with the clotting. Doug has now been given plasma and he is starting to improve but they desperately need donations to keep him at the hospital.

3-9-20  Girl - dog with badly broken arm

My dogs name is Girl, she is a Multipoo and is almost 2. On February 15 she had an accident and broke her leg. The break was at her shoulder and elbow. I took her to the vet and had her leg put in a splint. She's had a hard time having to be confined to her crate and not being able to play with her brother. She's normally very spunky and always jumping around. She's very loving and loves playing with people. Unfortunately today at check up the vet told me her bones were not attaching. She needs surgery asap or she'll lose her leg. She needs 2 plates put in her shoulder and leg so she can go back to living her normal life. I can't bare to amputate her leg. She needs the surgery. It's very costly and i would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you.

3-14-20  Another colony in need of food

I received this plea:  A rescue friend of mine is struggling to make ends meet due to an unforeseen situation I am asking all of my friends if they would come together and help me help her she has lots of cats and could use help with litter and food. Any kind will do. she will be grateful. Thank you in advance and please share. We are all in this rescue world together, sometimes we need a hand and sometimes we need to lend a hand. Thank you and God bless. This is what she said: At this point, we’re in a situation where anything and everything is appreciated more than I can express. These are cats that are very well loved and taken care of. I hate that I’m in this situation that I would even need to ask for help.

3-20-20  Loki  - cat in dire need of a dental

I got a very tearful call from an individual that lost her housing and was living in her car with 6 kittens and 2 adults all in one carrier , they were all in pitiful condition , we found help for the kittens and young adult with URI but the adult had more serious health concerns, stomatitis and a urinary blockage ( and will need a dental once his infection has cleared up ) and with no funds or shelter I took him in. My main focus is trapping and fostering kitties for adoption so taking on a pet owners sick cat is beyond my capabilities and a burden financially but I’m doing the best I can , if you can contribute to his care it would be appreciated.  **UPDATE** I have scheduled Loki’s dental cleaning for Monday March 23rd at Miami Animal Clinic , with an estimated cost of 250-300$ ( in case he needs an extraction) if you can contribute to his bill please call in directly to the vet at 786-542-6070 under his name Loki , he still has an outstanding balance of 30$ from his initial visit as well. I’m also hoping to get funds or donations of his prescription food for his UTI. His owner is not able to take care of him at this time, I’m doing what I can by fostering and medicating him. thank you

3-30-20  Oliver  -  kitty with a huge lump on head

I was contacted by someone who needs a vet visit ASAP for a cat with a huge lump on his head. This is his story:  He was a stray someone on his Facebook took in then posted they were throwing out because he would bite. I ran over and got him and found out he bites because they declawed him and they were rough with him. They are no longer on my Facebook and he has yet to bite me.

3-31-20  Mimi - colony cat cat stopped eating and drinking

I have a dilemma with one of my colony cats and was hoping you could help me or point me in the direction of someone that may be able to assist. One of my colony cats, whom I care for, took a turn for the worse last night . He’s a ten year old FIV positive cat. He’s been salivating at the mouth constantly at an alarming rate. He won’t eat , drink and he’s hiding at the back of his cage . I don’t know what to do. I’ve been sending messages to any and everyone for help. I don’t want this kitty to die in his cage. I really need some assistance to help me.  Please. Currently I’m not working . I don’t want my unfortunate situation to be the reason he suffers. It’s disheartening to watch him suffer like this.
