Oliver was found in an ally in Chicago and turned into animal control. He has a huge mass in his left ear that is so large it has destroyed his eye. He also has a mass in his right ear, so he is totally deaf. He has lived in pain while these tumors grew for YEARS, probably most of his life... 10-04-15 Feral cats need food/vet care

My husband and I started taking in stray cats and kittens and trying to find them homes to keep them from going to the humane society. We can not stand the thought of animals that go into shelters and don't come back out. We joined a group of cat advocates. We are dedicated to helping stray cats in need. We follow the trap neuter and release program. Our goal is to keep cats safe, healthy and give them the chace to live and see that people do care. We are trying to get donations to help get all of our cats spayed/neutered and make sure all of them have their shots. We also are trying to fix up their shelter. Any amount helps, nothing is to small. If you would like to learn more about what my husband and I do check out our site at www.facebook.com/harpershappycritters ‌Help us save the cats and keep them from being killed in the shelters. Every animal deserves to live and feel loved. As of right now we are in need of a vet visit for a little guy who lost his eye and medication for a couple sick ones. Anything helps, cat food is always a help. Lots of kitties need your help. We have 20+ cats. The colder weather brings them eating more and sickness which means medication. Plus we are still facing the challenge of getting every last one spayed / neutered and their shots.

10-07-15  Lawson - Cat hit by car with leg torn off

We received a call last night for an injured cat that was located in North Saint Louis City. The caller a big animal lover herself, notice Lawson yesterday at her work and could tell he had some kind of injury to his rear leg. She was unable to get catch him.  So today one of our volunteers met the caller and set up a trap in hopes of catching this poor guy and it worked! He took the bait and he was starving!
At at the time of pick we could not see any visible injuries...but that was because he was sitting on his poor leg. After transport we made the horrifying discovery that Lawson is suffering from a severely mangled rear leg. Bone and dying tissue is exposed!!!  Lawson didn't make a peep on his freedom ride but that's because he is in shock. You can see the pain and agony in his stunning green eyes. If if anyone can please donate to his medical fund we would appreciate it.
A huge thank you to our caller who didn't allow this little guy to sit and suffer!!  (The groups is a 501c3)

10-12-15  Vikki - cat needing tail amputation

Vikki is a sweet, beautiful cat that was rescued from the streets in January of 2014. She was blind, probably from an untreated infection. Less than a year ago she survived a devastating house fire. In October of 2015 she was abandoned when her owner moved away. In Pursuit Of Grace stepped up to help her.  Vikki was taken to Bunker Hill Veterinary Hospital on October 9th. Her shots were updated, she was flea treated and dewormed. At her vet visit we found that she had suffered a recent injury to her tail that was left untreated. The vet has advised that part of her tail must be amputated to prevent an infection that could spread.  We are asking for help to cover the cost of this surgery. Vikki is safe now in a home and deserves to have a long comfortable life. She has survived so much, please help us to help her. Any amount is greatly appreciated. In Pursuit Of Grace is a 501 (c)3 non profit organization.

10-14-15 Turtle kitty with a liver shunt

Turtle was found on the side of the road, left for dead. The couple who found him contacted several local rescues who were unwilling to help before reaching out to FuRRR. We stepped in to help, it’s what we do! He was brought to our vet, where he was initially put on a 10 day quarantine to make sure his symptoms were not rabies. After, Turtle still had difficulty and stumbling when walking, he was very slow to do things normal 3 month old kittens should be doing.  With the loving care from his foster mom and the team of veterinarians at Tufts, we found that Turtle has an Extrahepatic Shunt located on the outside of his liver. This causes a series of ammonia based toxins to surge through the bloodstream and poison the host. Quite literally Turtle’s little body is poisoning him from the inside. Turtle doesn’t want to eat and often is ill with digestive issues. His tiny body shakes with tremors and his vision comes and goes. He often has high fevers and his growth is stunted but most prominently noticed is the drool running from his mouth and the dull mental awareness with which he suffers. His foster mom lovingly named him Turtle due to his slow movement. She has been feeding him a special diet and medicating him to keep him comfortable and stabilized. We have planned his surgery in December, when he is a little bigger and more stabalized, without this he will certainly die.

10-15-15 Miley, dog with obstruction

This is MILEY from 11:00 tonight, October 14th, in a lot of pain, facing the possibility of not surviving the night.  Team Ruby received a call around 9:00 tonight from Quakertown Vet asking for our help. Miley was brought in by her devoted and loving mother..... lethargic, not eating, vomiting, dehydrated, and in lots of pain. After examination, the Vet is certain there is a 'foreign body' obstruction and surgery is needed ASAP.  Miley's mom is having incredible financial problems, cannot afford the surgery, nor can obtain the credit to have the surgery done. At one point, euthanasia was discussed, until we got the call. We can't let an awesome, and healthy, beautiful dog suffer and die because of finances. So we agreed to help and are now asking YOU to help us, help Miley!!!!! Please, any amount will help. The Vet's estimate is between $3000-4300.  Miley is 5 years young and is the best friend to a little 8 year old who has been crying all night.   (The GOFUNDME is not a 501c3)

10-15-15 Hoarder house in Iowa

Got a call about this a week or so ago and after some calling, planning, checking etc. we had it set up with the tenant of this house to go and assess the situation today. Once i got there and saw how bad it was no way was i leaving without getting inside and helping those i could. Long story short, she didn't show and we ended up calling the Sheriff's Dept. After their involvement, multiple calls and texts she finally agreed that we could go in and get pics and start removing cats. We waited 2 1/2 hours to get in and then spent another hour or so rounding up cats. I have seen and smelled some pretty bad stuff in this line of work but this one is definitely one of the worst. Not sure what happens that people allow a situation to get this bad? People can live however they choose but these poor animals didn't choose to live like this. You can smell it before you even get close. The air was thick with ammonia and flies. The floor is covered in layers of feces, filth and garbage. The walls are covered in brown slime and everywhere you look there are cats. Big ones, little ones, both the live and and the dead left to rot where they fell. The heartbreak and sadness permeates your entire being and cannot be washed away as easily as the stench from your clothes. Together, Denise and i pulled 8 out today. We took those who looked like they needed help the most and we were able to easily catch. That is all we can house and care for on our own. The plan is to vet and hopefully find placement for these and then go back for more. Donations, homes, rescues and help are desperately needed for the remaining cats. Not sure how many but at least 15 and probably more. Some will need trapped. I am tired......but at least 8 cats can breathe fresh air tonight and sleep in clean beds. Thanks to Eldora Veterinary Care for seeing them on a moments notice.  (They are a 501c3)   Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/hardineldoraanimalrescueteam

Elliott is a young polydactyl kitty who showed up so hungry...and not able to eat, his mouth is full of infected teeth. Despite this incredible pain (most likely stomatitis) he's a cuddle bug full of so much love. It's evident that he has had a rough street life and deserves help and kind human intervention. All funds will go to having him fully vetted, sweet Elliott will be adopted out once he's well. Thank you!

Rushing to Garden State Emergency Vet in Iselin with this guy. Please please keep him in your thoughts!! Boss was having seizures. Hes there now being stabilized. We are picking him up around 8am to transfer him to St Georges in Avenel.  He will be placed back on an IV fluid and a treatment plan. We are looking at possibly something congenital, or to rule out some infections or toxoplasmosis. I'm clearly hoping this is a complete fluke.

10-18-15  Kitten from a hoarder situation

There was an urgent plea today by a lady regarding a hoarding situation. Apparently, this lady is a neighbor who has witnessed a large number of emaciated animals . This is a very small and rural community. The proper authorities have been notified and actions are being taken. But the phone call involved one, very small, emaciated, black kitten who barely had the strength to walk. The neighbor lady was highly concerned and wanted to find this pathetic little kitten help . She approached the owner of the home about the kitten. The woman said that she knew about the kitten, and put it outside because it had diarrhea. She did not want it in her home making a mess. You already know that kitten season is not over for us . And this tiny kitten wandering around searching for food is evidence of that. The kind neighbor lady says that she will take it into her home and feed it until we can raise the funds to treat it. She says that it has a very sharp backbone and hip bone but is eating well. We will make room for this kitten and we will find a foster to care for it until it is strong enough to be available for adoption. We know that this kitten will need antibiotics , and eyedrops to clear the infection it suffers from . It will need fluids for the dehydration and medication for the diarrhea. Once healthy, we will have it vaccinated, tested and spayed/neutered . We would love to help this poor baby but we need your help in funding. Will you consider donating to help save this neglected baby?

10-21-15 Max - hit and run dog

Two good samaritans saw a dog get hit by a car and the car flee the scene. Both women were able to "herd" the dog into a nearby yard and call animal control. Once the dog was secure in the yard, they called animal control. When animal control arrived, the two women learned of the local laws down here in NC and that the fate of this sweet dog was not good. So, they called Pitty Rescue (Jeff Coltenback). Jeff was able to work with animal control and the emergency veterinarian to ensure the dog would not be euthanized and animal control allowed Pitty Rescue to take ownership of the dog, now named Max. The initial diagnosis was not that bad, and still isn't. But, he is in extreme pain and has been sedated much of the week. And, he has a secondary infection that is also being treated. We are unsure of any skin grafts, etc that may be needed. the primary goal is to keep the infection under control and manage his pain. He has a long road ahead of him and we are unsure of the medical costs involved. But, as a small rescue, we need your support to help Max get better. We are 10000% committed to him. Any amount will help, even $1. Max is currently being care for by Capeside Vet Clinic in Leland, NC. Please donate whatever you can and help subsidize the cost of Max's care. Thank you so much for your generosity and support...

10-26-15 Hank - very sick dog (Spider bite)

Hank, is very sick. We do not know exactly what happened. He was possibly bitten by a brown recluse spider, but we don't know for sure. We do know that one of his back legs is having the same reaction as if he has been bitten by a brown recluse (the tissue is dying). They are keeping him at the vet's office trying to save him by giving him strong antibiotics trying to prevent it from spreading any further & keeping him on an iv because he doesn't feel well enough to eat or drink at this point. He is also on medication for pain, etc. Our dogs are our children, & we are devastated. We want to do everything we can to save this sweet boy. We hate to have to ask for help, but we are experiencing so much financial hardship right now. My husband, Spencer, had a kidney stone earlier in the year that had astronomical bills due to him having to go to the er several times & then having to be admitted to have surgery to have it removed. He had to have back surgery 3 weeks ago which has hit us financially again We don't know if the treatment will work, but we sure are praying it will. All prayers sure are welcome as well. We live in a different town than our vet's office, so we also have the expense of driving back & forth to see him. We do know that the vet bills & expenses are already adding up quickly. I also have an ebay account, & anything I sell there right now will go towards Hank's bills. I haven't had time to put much on there, but check back often as I am going to try to get much more on there. My seller id on ebay is dappleshankcox if you are interested. Any & all help would be much appreciated. If we are ever in the position to help someone else, we certainly will pay it forward. Thank you so much!!!

I have upload several pictures of me & Spencer with Hank at the vet's office when we went to visit him this morning. We do have a few positive signs. The deterioration of the skin on his leg has not spread any further, & it looks as though it may be trying to heal on a few spots. He also no longer has a fever. When we got there, he did actually drink some water for Spencer which was really good. We are praying, praying, praying that he will make it through this. We have to give him every chance we can, & the vet has not given up on him either. We do know if he does make it, it will be a long & expensive road (he is most certainly worth it). If he is to make it, he will have to stay at the vet's office for a while, which we know will cost a good bit. Any & all financial help & prayers are very much appreciated!!!!!!!

10-27-15 Pupperoni - dog attacked by pitbulls

My mini-dachshund Pupperoni was viciously attacked in our backyard by my neighbor's 2 large pittbulls. We let our two dogs out in the yard to use the bathroom. As we were coming in our neighbor let their 2 pittbulls out, at which time they charged and chased Pupperoni under the wooden steps at the bottom of our deck. He tried to crawl under the steps to get away from them, but one of them came around the front of the steps and snatched him through the gap. The 2 pittbulls drug him across the lawn as their owner and my boyfriend attempted to free him. Sadly they were unable to free him from their grasp. My boyfriend's son ran down and began punching the one pittbull in the head, at which time the second pittbull ran back up onto their porch next door. Meanwhile, my boyfriend warned the woman to control her dogs and then ran inside to retrieve a handgun. As he returned outside with the gun, his son managed to hit the pittbull enough to cause the pittbull to release Pupperoni. I ran over and grabbed his bloodied, lifeless body from the dirt. As I stood up, trying to get Pupperoni out of the reach of the pittbull, it ran around behind me and then jumped up and grabbed Pupperoni's hide leg and almost pulled him right out of my hands. My boyfriend yelled as the pittbull let go of Pupperoni's leg. My boyfriend then shot at the pittbull to get him out our yard, hitting it somewhere in it's shoulder. I believed Pupperoni was gone, but after we saw his tail move, we realized he was still alive. After the EMT and Police arrived, they advised us to take Pupperoni to Valley Central Emergency Center in Whitehall PA which was about 45 minutes away (the closest emergency vet to us that was open on a Sunday). During the car ride he started bleeding heavily from his back, through the towel I had him wrapped in, down my shirt and side. He began breathing very shallow and quietly whimpering. I thought he'd never survive the trip to the animal hospital. It was the worst, and logest car ride in the world, but Pupperoni made it there alive. They nursing staff took him back immediately. His original prognosis was grim, but only got worse once the surgeon reevaluated him. Pupperoni sustained, in the vet's words; a "near decapitation." Luckily his trachea and vital parts in his neck are still in tact, but his gaping wounds extend from one side of his throat all the way to the back. To make matters worse, xrays revealed that 2 of Pupperoni's vertebra were dislocated. He still has sensation in his feet but we're unsure whether or not he's able to stand or walk. To keep his spinal cord from severing, leaving all 4 limbs paralyzed; he needs emergency surgery to fix his spine. The surgeon estimates this major surgery to cost anywhere between $6,000 and $8,000. I already paid $2,380.49 just to keep him alive for 24 hours, and to have his throat and neck tissues closed. Surgeon said it took well over 50 stitches (inside and out) to close his wounds. He's now in a brace keeping him from moving his head, neck, and back while I try to gather the funds to complete his spine surgery.
Pupperoni is only 5 years old, 10 pounds, and is the best little dog in the world. He's not only my fur-baby, he's my best friend and I can't just let him die. He did not deserve this vicious attack and I beg anyone who's able and willing, to help my baby out. Our family is devastated and can't bare the thought of losing him, especially this way.
